Overview of the Conference |

This conference is for everyone who views education through artistic lenses, or who use a variety of arts-based methodologies, or who communicates their understanding through such diverse genres as autobiography, narrative, poetry, visual arts, drama, dance, music and performance. It is hosted by the University of Bristol Graduate School of Education. It begins at 2pm on Thursday July 5th 2007 and closes at 1pm on Saturday July 7th 2007.
Plenary Speakers, performances and conversations
Professor Peter Clough, Liverpool Hope University, author of ‘Narratives and Fictions in Educational Research’ and Professor Andrew Sparkes of the University of Exeter, author of ‘Telling tales in sport and physical activity’ in conversation about writing as a form of inquiry
Professor Yvonne Sliep, University of Kwa-Zulu Natal, South Africa, author of ‘Narrative theatre for social action’ and members of the Narrative Theatre Group, presenting and performing their work.
Professor Salome Raheim, University of Iowa, USA, presenting a singing keynote, presenting an African-American journey from the times of slavery to the present day
Professor Martin Hughes, Wan Ching Yee and Theatr Iolo, performance/presentation of 'Ready or Not?', using drama to increase the impact of the Home School Knowledge Exchange project
Professor Rita Irwin, University of British Columbia, Professor Stephanie Springgay, Penn State University and members of the A/r/tography Research Group exhibiting presenting work in progress from the 'city of richgate' project
Registration fee for the full conference is £260 and includes coffee and tea on Thursday, Friday and Saturday and lunch on Friday. The conference dinner on Friday night is provided at an additional cost of £30.00 per delegate. Reduced fee rates available for ALL students, UoB Graduate School of Education students and UoB staff (go to the registration page).
The conference is non-residential. Information about local hotels and restaurants is available on the conference website. Attendance will be limited to the first 200 paid applications received.
